Who are you?

My name is Alexa Miller.  After living abroad for twelve years, I am now in my final year at the University of Virginia. I am passionate about all things digital media.  I care about socially responsible design and love to work with not-for-profits.  I want to make the world a better place.

I currently work as Education Strategist at UVA’s Digital Media Lab and as the graphics intern for the Virginia Film Festival. After graduating, I hope to join the communications team of a not-for-profit making change in our society.

Wait, so what is ‘aleighm’?

One quick compromise in 1998 and my online identity was born.  Alexandra Leigh Miller becomes aleighm; my middle name sandwiched between my first and last initials.  It seemed easy and original when my dad was helping me set up my very first email account at hotmail.com.  Now I’ve learned that is difficult to pronounce, spell, and remember – terrible qualities for a brand.  Unfortunately, when you have accounts on dozens of websites and networks already set up, it’s not something that can easily be changed.  Aleighm, as opposed to my name, is almost always available as a username.  (With the exception of Twitter – someone staked it out and now doesn’t even use it.  For shame!)
